Today's Word of Wonder: Restoration

The Scripture Spotlight for Today

"The words of the reckless pierce like swords, but the tongue of the wise brings healing."
— Proverbs 12:18 (NIV)

The Devotion: The Art of the Pause

There is a big difference between being "honest" and being "reckless." Often, we excuse sharp words by saying, "I was just telling the truth." But the Bible reminds us that truth without love is just a piercing sword.

Reckless words are usually the result of a "short fuse"—speaking from a place of immediate emotion, hurt, or stress. But Wisdom acts as a filter. A wise tongue takes a breath before it takes a stand. It considers the "weight" of the word before it lets it drop.

The WOW Moment today is realizing that you carry a "first-aid kit" in your mouth. You have the ability to speak Restoration over a broken spirit, to speak peace into a chaotic room, and to speak worth into someone who feels invisible. When we use our words to heal, we are acting as the hands and feet of Jesus through our breath.

Think of the "reckless" words you've received in the past. They leave wounds. Now, imagine being the person who applies the "balm" to someone else’s wounds today.

Wonder Prompt (Actionable Reflection)

Think of one person in your life who seems a bit "thorny" or difficult lately. Often, "thorny" people are just "wounded" people.

  • Action: Instead of reacting to their "thorns," speak a word of healing to them today. Give a genuine compliment, offer a sincere "thank you," or simply tell them you appreciate them.

  • Reflection: Notice if their "thorns" soften when you lead with a healing tongue.

  • Prayer: "Lord, forgive me for the times my words have pierced others. Today, I want to be a vessel of Your healing. Help me to see the hurts in others so I can speak the exact words they need to hear. Amen."
